What Is Suboxone?
Suboxone is the brand name for medication that we use in our opioid addiction treatment program. It contains two active ingredients: buprenorphine and naloxone.
Buprenorphine
Buprenorphine is a partial opioid antagonist. The drug binds to opiate receptors but activates them less strongly. This reduces the cravings that you may have due to the sudden withdrawal of opioids. In addition, buprenorphine can help you with opioid use disorder without producing the same euphoria that other opioids produce. Therefore, you are less likely to develop a Suboxone addiction or encounter Suboxone abuse.
Naloxone
Naloxone works differently from buprenorphine in that it is designed to reverse the effects of opioids instead of reducing them. It is especially beneficial if you experience an opioid overdose. Naloxone binds to the opioid receptors and blocks the effects of opioids. Even if you have a relapse, you may not feel the euphoric effects of the opioid.
Together, both of these ingredients make Suboxone a powerful deterrent to all types of prescription or narcotic opioids. When taken properly, you will have reduced or zero withdrawal symptoms and no cravings. You are more likely to feel ‘normal’ during detox, depending on the severity of your addiction.
The Benefits of Suboxone
Our Suboxone detox center is effective in helping you during different stages of your recovery – specifically during detox and rehab. When integrated into your drug addiction treatment program, you may discover that there are several benefits of Suboxone, such as:
- Relaxation
- Reduced stress levels
- An overall sense of well-being
- Pain relief
- Shorter detox period
- Greater chance of successful detox completion
Detox can create severe pain and discomfort over a period of three to ten days. Like any other opioid, Suboxone can reduce the pain you may feel without you having a Suboxone addiction. You are more likely to stay motivated and feel like you are succeeding.
Our Suboxone Detox Program
Although Suboxone is effective, it is not a primary form of addiction treatment. At Midwest Detox Center, we use Suboxone as a supplement to our primary care at our Suboxone detox center. We offer a variety of treatment programs that include:
- Residential addiction treatment program
- Alumni program
- Gender-specific detox and rehab
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy program
- Dialectical behavior therapy program
- Individual therapy program
- Group therapy program
After detox, you may continue to feel a certain level of cravings for several weeks. Cravings can derail your efforts to get clean and stay clean. They can also keep you from staying focused on your therapy. Suboxone reduces your cravings so that you can focus on your individual or group therapy. It is a short-term solution that can produce long-term results without the possibility of Suboxone abuse
