What Is Case Management?
A life of addiction can cause a person to experience negative life experiences and consequences. From finance and credit issues to legal and housing problems, addiction can affect many aspects of an individual’s life. At Midwest Detox Center, we understand the level of focus that each client needs to apply to their recovery. Because of this, we provide case management services to assist our clients.
A case manager is a clinical professional who acts as a client’s advocate, not only for their addiction therapy program but for their personal issues as well. Case managers address a wide variety of issues. At Midwest Detox Center, case management is an ongoing process. Our case managers are committed to helping each client stay in treatment and seek to resolve all issues that can prevent future success. One part of their role is to observe our clients as they progress through our program. Duties include advocating on behalf of the client with third parties, including the client’s family and friends, law enforcement agencies, courts, and employers.
Case management can be an invaluable part of the recovery process. If you or a loved one is struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and you’re not sure where to begin, reach out to our treatment center today. We’ll help you access the care and the resources you need to rebuild your life.
Benefits of Case Management
Case management offers a variety of benefits to our clients. Some of these benefits include:
- Assistance with legal issues
- Help with government benefits and financial issues
- Assistance with next steps after discharge
- Help with ongoing treatment
Legal Issues
One way case managers help clients take control of their future by addressing legal issues while in treatment. When people come to us for help and have pending legal matters, they might be unable to attend court dates or abide by court-mandated actions. This is where the case manager comes in. The case manager will communicate with law enforcement, state and federal agencies, and the courts. Our case managers act as a liaison between our detox center and authorities such as court clerks, judges, and probation officers. With the client’s consent, case managers can provide documentation about their treatment progress and any applicable completion certificates. These documents are often accepted by courts and can help to delay legal matters and prevent arrest warrants from being issued for missed court appearances. Addressing these legal issues provides a sense of relief for clients, allowing them to focus on their recovery instead of their legal troubles.
Financial Problems
Drug and alcohol addiction often leads to financial problems. Maintaining steady employment with a substance use problem can be difficult. Employment issues combined with the steady purchase of drugs or alcohol tend to cause financial challenges. At Midwest Detox Center, we can assist our clients with applying for government benefits. These might include:
- Unemployment compensation
- Disability benefits
- Grants for treatment
Our case managers can provide any documentation that is needed to complete applications for government assistance programs.
Next Steps
In order to ensure lasting sobriety, our case managers discuss and coordinate each client’s next steps after they discharge from our detox center.
When a client nears the end of their time in treatment, a case manager will discuss the importance of continuing their recovery and working towards long-term sobriety. Our case management team will help them transition to the next level of care by providing them information about 12-step meetings in their area and alumni support phone numbers. The actions taken by the case manager are also dependent on the unique needs of the client.
